entered the minor seminary of Fiesole, was ordained a priest June 27, 1971. He completed his training in Rome, earning a licentiate in theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and a licentiate in Biblical Sciences at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, residing at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary until 1978.
for the diocese of Fiesole was then assistant priest in San Giovanni Valdarno until 1983. From 1983 to 1990 he was assistant branch of the National Scouts and Guides Association of Italian Catholic Guides and Scouts (AGESCI) and spiritual director of the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary. On 10 December 2007 he was elected bishop of Civita Castellana, succeeding Msgr. Divo Zadi. January 12, 2008 consecrated bishop in the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, the diocese entered into February 16, 2008.
